Way Of Life by TGR... London Premiere!
by Jacob Banfield John Mogul is once again partnering with Sub Zero Events to bring you the premiere of Teton Gravity Research's newest film... Way Of Life! The film documents how for some, embracing the mountains is not just a part of life but a way of life. Whether that means athletes spending their days dropping first descents in Alaska, buddys lapping their local mountain or teams training for the olympics, they're all part of a community built around a shared passion. This new film pushes the boundaries of extreme sports cinematography and captures that bond. This year TGR have dramatically ramped up their production value investing in state of the art 4K digital cameras as well as highly advanced motion stabilisation technology. For the viewer, this means better storytelling, incredible footage and great character development. We talked exclusively to Teton Gravity's co-founder Todd Jones about the film, check out the interview below:

What did you and the TGR team discover after making 'Way of Life'? I am not sure it is something that we discovered after making the film, but we were able to find the common bonds between people who choose to live their life in the mountains. Tell us about some of the challenges faced when filming at such extreme locations? Filming snow is the most challenging environment in the world. We have to find the perfect setup of snow, weather, athletes being on and safety. You may have a beautiful day after a two foot storm, but you go into the mountains and the avalanche danger is too high so you can’t get the shots you need. Then the snow stabilizes from a safety perspective and the wind blows 50 mph and the snow is all gone two days later. It is really a very complicated environment we work in. What's most interesting thing behind the scenes when creating the final edit? The edit process is super wild. We have hundreds of hours of footage that we need to bring down into one hour. The early rough cuts are two hours long and we trim from there. It takes a ton of critical input from the team to get the film right What was the funniest moment during filming? The funniest moments during filming are really when everything is going well and the crew is on point, making good decisions. The vibe goes from stressful to light hearted and excitement starts to build. The people on our team are very serious about getting it done, but very fun people when it is coming together on the good days. Where do you see skiing going in the next few years? Skiing continues to progress. At TGR we are pushing exploration further than we ever have. With our Fantasy Camp trip last year we really opened a new frontier. We built a remote village in the middle of the mountains with living tents, air strip for planes, heli pads, fuel station, dining hall, bathrooms, and more. It allowed us to be staged in an area that has seen very little human traffic. What's next for TGR? We want to continue to push action sports filmmaking and story telling. We are working on a number of new film projects right now as well as some new television series. Lots more to come. |
